In September 2025, Group Technology at Web Travel Group launched its first-ever Virtual Hack Week , a business-wide innovation sprint that empowered teams across the globe to solve everyday IT problems using automation, AI, and smart simplification.
Driven by the theme “Automate the Boring Stuff,” Hack Week encouraged team members to challenge the status quo and bring forward practical solutions to eliminate repetitive tasks, improve user experience, and drive efficiency.
With participation from Manila, Dubai, Cairo, Târgu Mureș, Palma, Melbourne, London and beyond, cross-functional teams spent weeks shaping ideas, building prototypes, and collaborating virtually. The result? A rich pipeline of innovative concepts many of which are already being added to our IT roadmap.
Each idea was judged based on impact, feasibility, effort, and alignment to strategy by a panel of leaders.
The winning team will travel to Dubai to present their solution to leadership and work alongside engineering teams to bring it to life.
What Made It Special? The energy, ideas, and multi-location collaboration was amazing to witness. The way our teams came together to pitch, demo, and challenge the status quo was nothing short of inspiring.
With a number of demonstrated ideas now entering our automation delivery pipeline, this week wasn’t just about ideas it was about shaping the future of how we work.
What the leaders said...
Hack Week is now being integrated into our operating rhythm, with the top ideas feeding into our IT roadmap for 2025 and beyond. It’s not just a once-off event it’s the start of a culture of empowered innovation at scale.
We can’t wait to see our teams innovations in play!
